When is the Best Time to Use Your Headlights?

Your headlights are important in helping you see your way when you are driving. They also alert other drivers to your presence. To remain safe on the road you should know when and when not to use your headlights. Below are some tips you can use to determine whether or not your headlights should be on.

  • During inclement weather you should always use your headlights. This can include rain, snow, sleet, fog, and smoke.
  • When you are driving on rural and mountainous roads.
  • When driving on two-lane highways that are very narrow.
  • If there are road signs indicating a daytime headlight zone.
  • Right after sunrise and right before sunset. During this time you may find it harder to see other vehicles. When you tail lights are on you decrease your chances of getting into an accident.

Most newer cars now have daytime running lights, but if you choose not to use them use the above tips to determine the best times to turn on your headlights.
